Work on new airport terminal building to begin this month

Patna: Construction work on new terminal building at Patna airport is likely to commence this month. The Centre has sanctioned Rs1216.9 crore to Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the new terminal building and its allied structures.
Patna airport director Bhupesh CH Negi said, “As per the design, the new terminal building will come up on 65,000 square metre area. The existing building is spread over 7,200 square metres. It is expected to be ready by October 2022. Around 400 trees obstructing the construction work will be translocated to other locations on Patna airport, zoo and Bihar Veterinary College campuses.”
The proposed terminal building will have the capacity to handle 45 lakh passengers per annum. It would have the departure lounge on the first floor and arrival area on the ground floor. The new building will also have provision for six aerobridges for the flyers to board flights from the first floor. Apron area will facilitate parking of 14 aircraft at a time against the existing capacity of six aircraft.
