Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant held a joint stakeholder meeting to arrive at a consensus on the need to obtain a clearance from the Indian Navy for construction around Goa International Airport, Dabolim.
Sawant was told that it is the Union civil aviation ministry that levies height restrictions on constructions within a 20km radius of the airport, sources present at the meeting told TOI. “The chief minister was told that it’s not the Navy’s mandate to issue NOCs, but that of the Union civil aviation ministry and that these norms are applicable across the country,” said a source.
The hour-long meeting also saw stakeholders studying the colour coded zoning map (CCZM) prepared by the Indian Navy.
“The CCZM basically shows that closer to the runway, the height of the construction permitted reduces, and the further you go, the height permitted also increases,” an official who studied the CCZM said.
The Indian Navy will continue to grant no-objection certificates for realty projects that are within 4km of the airport, while projects located beyond 4km would be able to obtain permission from the local authorities, a source said. The CCZM has been shared with the TCP department, the two district collectorates, Airports Authority of India and the state department for civil aviation.
