Airport hospitality companies keen to improve passenger experience

New Delhi: Airport hospitality service providers Plaza Premium Group, Bird Group and Travel Food Services (TFS) are shifting focus in India from opening lounges to providing facilities such as porterage and fasttrack assistance, as they look for newer avenues of growth.
Hong Kong-based Plaza Premium, which operates 19 lounges across India, said it will invest 500 crore, especially in Allways, a service that includes greeting with a welcome placard, baggage handling and escort through security checkpoints to boarding gates, and transport pick-up.
“India is the fastest growing aviation market but little has been done to improve preboarding experience of passengers," said Bhavya Kukreja, general manager of Plaza Premium. “The sector has huge potential to grow, and sensing the opportunity, we have entered into this new business.”
While privatisation of Indian airports has fuelled the growth of airport lounges, most lounge operators are seeing limited room to expand their core operations, and are taking the premium services path to boost revenue. Also, air passenger traffic in the country increased just 1.2% year on year in September, hurting revenues of operators who rely mainly on lounge services.
