Boeing 737 MAX Grounding: Airbus continues to be an option on the table, says Ajay Singh of Spicejet

Aviation sector in India is seeing an improvement, said Ajay Singh, chairman and managing director, Spicejet in an exclusive interview to CNBC-TV18.

In August 2019, domestic airlines in India registered a growth of 3.24 percent as against the same month of last year and nearly 4 percent rise as against July 2019.

Passenger growth in the month of January 2019 rose 9.10 percent on an year-on-year basis but fell to a negative 4.5 percent in April.

On Jet Airways, Singh said the airline has added 32 aircraft from Jet Airways' fleet. He said, “At airports like Mumbai, we had only 30 flights. We now have 81 flights. SpiceJet has taken up as much space as we possibly could and we continue to look at opportunities.”

On Boeing's MAX aircraft, he said, Boeing is working very  hard on MAX and has indicated the aircraft will be back in the air by January 2020.

“They (Boeing) feel by early November they should have the aircraft certified by FAA and then it depends on how much time the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will take. But, our timeline for this is January,” he added.
