Chennai-Jaffna air services to commence from November 01

Colombo: The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka has announced that with the opening of Jaffna International Airport yesterday, commercial flights between Jaffna and Chennai will commence on the 1st of November.

Director General of Civil Aviation Authority HMC Nimalsiri said an airline has come forward to operate commercial flights between Jaffna and Chennai. The airline has agreed to operate daily flights, he added.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority, the flight between Jaffna and Chennai will take between 50 minutes and one hour.

The official said that several other airlines will also come forward to operate the Chennai-Jaffna route.

Opening the former military airport in Palaly as the Jaffna International Airport, an ATR-72 aircraft of Alliance Air, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Air India, arrived from Chennai yesterday.
