Chinese President’s four cars arrive at Chennai airport

An Air China cargo flight landed at Chennai airport on Tuesday carrying four cars which will be part of the motorcade of Chinese President Xi Jinping. The B747 plane, which landed at 7pm, also brought in other items needed for the Chinese delegation.
The president’s entourage will arrive at 1.30pm on Friday. An hour later, Xi’s aircraft will touch down. He is likely to move to his official car to be driven out to ITC Grand Chola where he will be staying.
Chinese officials, including those in charge of the security met their Indian counterparts and also Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials to discuss coordination and logistics for the President’s arrival and stay. Chinese officials also visited the venue of the summit and a few monuments at Mamallapuram on Wednesday.
The Chinese security teams have briefed their Indian counterparts about their requirements for surveillance and enroute security. The Chinese teams will make multiple trips along the route to be taken by Jinping to Mamallapuram where he would hold talks with Modi. The two leaders are expected to spend some leisure time together, taking a stroll on the beach and watching some cultural programmes in the 7th century Pallava town.
