Diamond firm employee loses cash, valuables from check-in luggage

Surat: Cash and valuables worth Rs 96,000 was stolen along with important documents from check-in baggage of a diamond export firm employee from the Surat-New Delhi flight. The Dumas police lodged a case of theft against an unidentified person based on complaint of Naresh Mayani (42), a resident of Mota Varachha.

The Mayani alleged in his complaint that somebody stole the valuables from his bag after it was handed over to the airline staff at Surat airport. The complainant came to know about the theft on reaching New Delhi.
Mayani, an HR officer in Hare Krishna Export, alleged that his IPad, earphone and Rs 80,000 cash was stolen by some unidentified person after he handed over the luggage to staff of SpiceJet at Surat airport before boarding the Surat-New Delhi flight on October 9.
According to the complaint, Mayani had reached the city airport on October 9 morning and while checking-in his handbag weighed a little over 9 kg. The airline staff asked him to keep the bag in check-in baggage since only 7 kg is allowed in hand baggage.
When Mayani got his bag back at New Delhi airport he found that the chains tied to the bag were open. He immediately informed the security officer. On checking the bag it was further found that valuables were missing.
