Surat: Good news in the air for Odiyas living in Surat. Direct flights between Surat and Bhubaneshwar will start from January 1, 2020, after Air India received a nod from the civil aviation ministry.
Surat has an Odiya population of about 2.5 lakh. Odisha chief minister Navin Patnaik had written a letter to the civil aviation ministry in August 2018, to start a direct flight between the two cities, a demand which was being arduously followed up by Surat MP Darshana Jardosh and Bhubaneshwar Aparajita Sarangi.
Civil aviation minister, Hardeep Puri, on Thursday approved Air India to operate flights thrice a week on this route.
