Gold smuggling: Two passengers arrested in Chennai

Chennai: Customs officials at Chennai airport on Thursday arrested two passengers, including a woman, who tried to smuggle in 967 gram of gold worth Rs 38.37 lakh.
Officials intercepted Farjana Abubakkar Siddiqu,27, of Pulianthope and Sathakathulla ,47, of Ramanathapuram, who arrived here from Malaysia in an AirAsia flight and from Dubai in an Indigo flight, respectively.
When searched, six bundles of rubbery paste containing gold was found concealed in Farjana’s inner garments and stitched inside of her skirt.
Three bundles were found concealed in the rectum of Sathakathulla. Two gold bits weighing 40 grams were recovered from his trouser pockets. On extraction, 927 gram of gold was recovered from the paste. A total of 967 gram of gold valued at Rs 38.37 lakh was recovered.
