Guwahati sees 27% growth in air traffic movement

Guwahati: Amid slowdown in the domestic aviation sector, Guwahati airport has witnessed over 27% growth in air traffic movement.

The Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati is growing at an exponential rate, crossing the 6 million passenger capacity mark in the 2018-19 fiscal year. AAI officials said it's a challenging task for Air Traffic Control Officers (ATCOs) at the LGBI Airport that has witnessed a total footfall of 60,18,054 passengers and 55,066 aircraft movement in the same period.
Making the schedule of ATCOs more packed than it ever was, Airports Authority of India's (AAI) regional executive director Sanjeev Jindal said the ATCOs are working in very difficult conditions in the northeast to ensure zero error on the part of the AAI as punctuality of flights is of utmost importance to travellers.

Jindal was addressing a gathering on the occasion of 'International Day of Air Traffic Controller' at the Guwahati airport on Sunday.
Speaking on the challenges faced by ATCOs, he said, "It requires a lot of time, skill and money to become an ATCO and even more dedication to accomplish their duties and responsibilities. Hence, they are very important for the functioning of the aviation industry. They are working under a strict system adhering to global guidelines."

Applauding the tasks of the ATCOs, Guwahati airport director Ramesh Kumar said it's a great day to celebrate such an occasion as they work under immense pressure.
