Heavy rains in Pune, IndiGo issues travel advisory

Pune: Pune in Maharashtra and its adjoining areas witnessed heavy rainfall on Friday. It started raining in Pune at around 3.30 pm and the rains poured down for almost an hour in the evening.

Compared to rains in the past few days, the rainfall was intense in Pune on Friday. However, the rainfall was not heavier than what had come down on September 25 and 26 when the majority of the South Pune and Khedshivapur Village area were flooded by flash floods.

Indian airline IndiGo took to Twitter to release an advisory.
IndiGo tweeted, "It's been pouring in Pune. We advise passengers to keep enough travel time in hand while travelling to the airport."
The head of weather section of India Meteorological Department (IMD) Pune Anupam Kashyapi said that this rain activity is called thunderstorm rain activity wherein there is lightening at specific intervals followed by thunder activity and later it starts raining heavily followed by thundering at intervals.
Kashyapi said that the reason for this is because of intense heating of land mass during the first half of the day. Due to the overheating of land the water bodies give out moisture. The vapour formation results in the increase of moisture in the clouds. The cloud formation and increase in moisture culminate in rain activity, mostly during the second half of the day.
