Kozhikode: The five-hour partial closure of the runway of the Karipur airport for widening of the fillet area of the airport taxiway will commence in 10 days. Two airlines having operations in the five-hour closure period have already changed their schedules from Sunday onwards in view of the works, which include expansion of fillet area and resurfacing of the existing taxiways and other associated works.
The runway will be closed from 1pm to 6pm for carrying out the works. Fillet is an increased area of pavement around turning points on the runway and the taxi-way to ensure that aircraft do not go off the pavement while turning.
Karipur Airport director K Srinivasa Rao said that the works would be completed by March and the partial runway closure would be in place till then.
“Though two airlines have already changed their schedule to avoid operations during the closure window, we will start the partial closure of the runway in 10 days after the contractor mobilize the material and manpower,” he added.
