Passenger flow at Patna airport up 12.2% in five months

Patna: Inadequate passenger amenities and small terminal building notwithstanding, Jayaprakash Narayan International (JPNI) Airport, Patna, has registered 12.2% growth in domestic passenger flow in the first five months (April to August) of the current fiscal when compared to the same period last fiscal.
According to the latest air traffic figures issued by the Airports Authority of India, Patna airport handled 3,96,104 passengers in August alone. The total passenger movement from April to August this year stood at 19,29,254 against 17,20,087 during the same period last year.

Overall, Patna airport was ranked 28th in the country as far as growth in passenger flow is concerned.

Patna airport director Bhupesh CH Negi said the AAI at Patna was taking all possible steps to improve amenities at the terminal building. “We are extending the terminal building towards the food court. The construction work, which began in August, would complete by the next two months. The additional space will help us improve amenities at the airport,” Negi added.

According to air traffic data of AAI, the number of flights operating from Patna airport also saw a rise of 5.9% between April and August this year as compared to the same period last year. The number of flights increased from 12,159 in 2018 (between April and August) to 12,881 this year. In August, the city airport handled 2,770 flights.

The Patna airport currently handles 46 daily flights – 12 of GoAir, 19 of IndiGo, 12 of SpiceJet and three of Air India.
