Visakhapatnam MP urges Navy to allot more slots to civilian airlines

Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam MP MVV Satyanarayana urged authorities of the Indian Navy to address issues concerning flight slots at the Visakhapatnam airport which the Indian Navy operates. The MP said that even though a number of airlines have expressed their interest in providing services from Visakhapatnam, the Navy has not been allotting enough slots.
Satynarayana observed that the Navy was not giving enough slots for civilian flights from 06:00 am to 10:00 am and 06:00 pm to 10:00 pm, which are crucial slots for buyers.
The MP further said that even though the Navy had allotted 40 movements (landings or take-offs) from 06:00 pm to 10:00 pm, they have actually given permissions for only 18 movements. He urged naval authorities to extend permissions for at least 30 movements.
MVV Satyanarayana told STOI that he had already informed the Union aviation minister and the defence minister about the issue, adding, “They responded positively.” However, he pointed that the local Navy authorities must write positively about the local demand for evening flights at the city airport.
