11 flights to Srinagar and Leh cancelled

New Delhi: Owing to bad weather in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, 11 flights of different private airlines bound to Srinagar and Leh airports were cancelled on Friday.

The picturesque J&K and Ladakh were wrapped under a thick blanket of snow on Thursday causing cancellation and delay in flights.

According to the official spokesperson of Delhi International Airport Authority (DIAL), the situation in these two cities are not ideal for landing or take-off of any flight. Due to the cancellation of flights, thousands of tourists are trapped in the Valley as road routes are also disrupted due to heavy snowfall.

"Such weather is considered as dangerous for aircraft especially during landing as chances of skidding wheels always on the card.

In the interest of passengers, it has been decided to cancel flying operation in the region," the official said. An official of the Airport Authority of India said all incoming and outgoing flights at Srinagar airport have been cancelled.
