20 flights delayed, two diverted to Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: Poor visibility triggered by pollution and smog in Delhi impacted several flight movements from Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi on Monday. As a result, several flight movements to and from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Ahmedabad were delayed. According to well-placed sources, departures of at least 20 flights from SVPI airport in Ahmedabad were delayed.
The ones to be worst affected were flights operated by IndiGo Airlines. It was a double whammy for IndiGo passengers, because the airline’s servers were down for some time, early on Monday. Some 10 flights operated by the airlines from SVPI airport, got delayed from 20 minutes to two hours. These include flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Goa, Kochi, and Hyderabad.

“We regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers today in the morning due to system being down across airports for under an hour. Our flights and check-in systems are operating normally now,” said an IndiGo airlines spokesperson.

Operational issues left several IndiGo airlines passengers stranded. “Only after we reached the airport around 5pm for a 6.40pm flight to Mumbai, I learnt that the flight will depart at 8.15pm. If the delay is planned, it is best that passengers are intimated in advance. I am travelling with my parents and wife and daughter and they had to unnecessarily wait at the airport,” said Dr Brijesh Wadekar, a pharma professional.
Apart from IndiGo, nine flights by SpiceJet as well as GoAir were also delayed from the city airport. These include five flights operated by SpiceJet to Goa, Delhi, Bangkok and Chennai, which were delayed by up to an hour along with four GoAir flights to Nagpur, Chandigarh, Chennai and Goa, which were delayed by 25 minutes to 1 hour 25 minutes.
