Chennai: Good news coming in from Chennai. Soon, Chennai Metro will connect the Chennai Airport with Kilambakkam. The news has made lakhs of commuters happy, especially those commuting from places like Tambaram and Chrompet to the city. The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) will begin working on their much-anticipated Chennai Airport-Kilambakkam project from 2021 as per the sources.
It is expected that work on the 15.3 km stretch will start in 2021 on the GST Road in Chennai. As per sources, Chennai Metro authorities have already submitted a report for the purpose and will start working on the detailed project report soon. To finish this report, it will take nearly 10 to 12 months. The work can begin immediately after, as the demand is quite high for that stretch.
The Chennai Airport to Kilambakkam stretch will be elevated and have 13 stations. Giving reasons for making the elevated road, the metro sources said that the elevated stretch is much faster to construct than an underground. It is also cheaper in comparison to an underground stretch.
