Bhopal airport recorded slump in flyers, freight in September: AAI

Bhopal: After witnessing continuous rise in the number of passengers, their footfall at Bhopal's Raja Bhoj airport in the month of September was highly disappointing.

According to a survey by the Airports Authority of India, Bhopal’s growth in passenger movement in September 2019 was 91.1% compared to figures from September 2018. Notably, in the survey for August, the passenger movement growth was 112.5%.

Since January 2019, there has been tremendous growth at Bhopal airport both in terms of connectivity as well as footfall. This could be gauged from the fact that Bhopal airport touched a growth of 107.6% in passenger movement in July.

However, September's figure was a setback for the airport. In all, movement of around 1.8 lakh passengers was recorded, which was 91.1% better than in September 2018 when there were 56,838 passengers.

However, the growth dipped by almost 21% when compared to August. In the period between April and September, the passenger movement was recorded at 83.2%.

The survey also highlighted the poor freight movement in September. In September 2019, the total freight movement was 104 mt, while in September 2018, the total freight movement was 177mt.
