Chennai: The Customs officials on Thursday arrested a South Korean national for smuggling four kilograms of gold worth Rs 1.56 crore, official sources said on Thursday.
According to the sources, Chang Sic Ban (36) of Seoul was intercepted by the Customs officials, when he was moving towards the exit gate after arriving from Hong Kong in a Cathay Pacific aircraft.
Four gold bars with foreign markings each weighing one kilogram was found hidden in his sports shoes. Two packets containing the gold bars and wrapped in newspapers were found in each shoe.
