Customs officials seize gold, cigarettes at Mangaluru International Airport

Mangaluru: Customs officers deployed at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) in two separate cases of enforcement have thwarted attempts to smuggle gold and cigarettes on November 4 and October 29 respectively, the department stated in separate tweets on Monday.
On Monday, Customs officers seized gold weighing 252.98 grams valued at Rs 9.65 lakh from possession of a passenger who arrived in the city from Dubai on Air India flight IX814. The gold was concealed in plate form inside toys.
In the incident detected on October 29, custom officers seized cigarettes of various brands totalling 211 cartons valued at Rs 6.23 lakh from the possession of a passenger who arrived at MIA from Dubai on SpiceJet flight SG060.
