Delay snaps family’s Lanka air link from city

Ahmedabad: A holiday to Sri Lanka began on a sour note for Sudhir Kuduchkar (45), his wife and son, as a delayed flight from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in Ahmedabad, made them miss their connecting flight to Colombo, Sri Lanka. Sudhir was to take IndiGo flight 6E-856 from Ahmedabad to Chennai at 11.25pm on Monday.
“However, the flight finally departed at 5.25am on Tuesday. After we boarded the flight around 4am, we were informed that the flying hours of the pilot were over and thus, a new pilot was called in after which the flight departed. But despite all the effort, we missed the connecting flight to Colombo,” Sudhir explained.

After repeated follow-ups, the airline arranged for the family to fly from Chennai to Bengaluru and from there, a flight to Colombo was booked.

Sudhir and his family however, weren’t alone. A slew of passengers taking IndiGo flights from Ahmedabad to Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad, even on Tuesday, had a harrowing experience due to the delay. Sources confirmed that some six flights from Ahmedabad to these destinations were delayed by 30 minutes to more than an hour.

When contacted, an IndiGo airlines spokesperson said, “The smog situation at the Delhi airport yesterday combined with our system outage issue across the network yesterday led to delay of some flights. With the improvement in the smog situation, as is being indicated since yesterday evening in Delhi, there might be a very limited number of flights affected today. We regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers and will be keeping them updated at all times.”

Including these six, 17 flights from Ahmedabad to various destinations were delayed on Tuesday. These include 11 flights operated by Air India, SpiceJet and GoAir.

Thanks to the delay in arrival of the incoming flight, a Mumbai-bound Air India flight was delayed by some four hours.
Two other flights to Delhi operated by the airline were also delayed.
That apart, four flights to Delhi, Goa, Pune and Mumbai, operated by SpiceJet, were also delayed ranging from 40 minutes to over an hour.
