Mumbai: The joint forum of Air India unions, associations, guilds, federations and trusts called for an urgent meeting with the government with regards to privatisation of the airline Monday.
In a letter to Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, the forum said the previous two meetings held by Air India Managing Director Ashwani Lohani led to “no clarity on major issues” that include payment of arrears, wage revision and job security to name a few. “On account of lack of transparency and growing concerns over the future there is considerable resentment and unrest amongst employees,” the letter stated.
Speaking to The Indian Express, George Abraham, general secretary, Aviation Industry Employees Guild said, “The government needs to be transparent about the process of disinvestment of Air India. There have been several meetings held but everything is under wraps. In the two cosmetic meetings held previously, the CMD expressed helplessness and none of our concerns were addressed. When we spoke about wanting job security of 5 years for employees, we were told by director of personnel (Amrita Sharan) that only a year could be offered.”
