Fear of arrest stops airport taxi strike

Vasco: Members of the taxi union of Dabolim International Airport backed out of their plans to block the exit outside the terminal building after Dabolim PI Sagar Ekoskar warned them of arrest. Ekoskar told them not to take the law into their hands, especially at a time when delegates are arriving for the International Film Festival of India (Iffi).
Union members started assembling outside the terminal building from 11am on Thursday. At 12.30pm, they decided to go to the terminal building to pick up passengers and park their vehicle in protest when they are asked for Rs 50 by the contractor on exit. The taximen were supported by Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco .
When the police learnt of their plan, Ekoskar warned Lourenco that if they try to disrupt traffic, he would arrest them. The taximen were then reluctant to carry on with their strike.
