Patna: To check the preparedness and ability to tackle unforeseen situation, Jayaprakash Narayan International (JPNI) Airport Patna organized a full-scale ‘Aerodrome Emergency Mock Exercise’ after last flight departed at 10.40pm on Saturday..
Patna airport director Bhupesh CH Negi said the mock exercise is organized once in two years to check the preparedness of various agencies responsible to handle emergency situations.
A situation was simulated that an aircraft having one engine on fire crashed after landing. The airport rescue and fire fighting team extinguished the fire. For rescuing the survivors on board, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) worked along and took the passengers and crew members to safe spot for first-aid.
The ambulances deputed at Patna airport tested their readiness to provide immediate medical help and rush serious patients to the hospital with whom the airport already has a memorandum of understanding for responding to such contingencies.
Negi said, “It was the first time that emergency exercise was conducted in the night hours and maximum agencies participated. Challenges likely to be encountered in case of such situations were simulated during the drill.”
