Mangaluru: The customs officials, who detected gold and cigarettes being smuggled into the country through the international airport here, seized them in two separate cases. Two passengers were arrested in this connection.
252.98 grams of gold worth Rs 9.65 lac was confiscated from a passenger who arrived on November 4 by an Air India Express flight from Dubai. The passenger had hidden gold in the form of tiny chunks hidden in the toys of children.
In the other incident, a person who came here on October 29 by a SpiceJet flight from Dubai was found carrying cigarettes of different brands worth Rs 6.23 lac. The cigarettes, which were stuffed into 211 packets, were confiscated.
