Flight operations have stopped at Shirdi international airport due to inclement weather and low visibility, prompting SpiceJet to announce that it is temporarily moving its operations to Aurangabad airport till November 26.
IndiGo and other airlines have allowed passengers to change the date of their flight as an alternative or offered refunds for the cancelled flights.
The situation is expected to improve in a couple of days. “Flight operations have been impacted from
November 14 due to winter weather conditions and low visibility,” said Maharashtra Airport Development Corporation vice chairman and managing director Suresh Kakani. “A minimum visibility of up to 5 km is required for normal flight operations, but it has been dropping to 1.5 km to 2 km. We are monitoring the weather on a daily basis.”
The Shirdi airport handles the movement of 22 aircraft daily and airlines including IndiGo, SpiceJet, Alliance Air and Trujet operate daily flights to the temple town.
