Pune: Damaged luggage at airport worries flyers

Pune: Lalit Kulkarni, who travelled from Pune to Kochi a few days ago, was left fuming after he found that the two bags he had checked-in were damaged.
“The handles of both my bags were broken when I received them. I don’t understand how do the airlines handle the luggage and how careless can they be. This is the second time this has happened to me. I demanded compensation from the airline via social media, but they said it could not be given as I hadn’t filed a complaint at the airport,” Kulkarni told TOI.

Milan, a resident of Aundh, had travelled on another airline from Pune to Ahmedabad last week. He found his bag damaged too. “I registered a complaint but got no reply. I tried to speak with the customer care but there was no satisfactory reply. How can they treat the luggage so badly?” he said.

Mihir, another flyer who landed in Pune from Delhi, posted pictures of his damaged luggage on social media. “The locks have been broken and there is permanent damage to the bags. Very unproffesional staff as they aren’t even registering the complaint,” he posted.

In another case, a flyer complained of his cracked bag and the airline had to replace it with a new one, in the first week of November.

The Pune airport of late has been getting quite a few complaints from passengers related to broken or damaged luggage. An airline source said most of the problems are occurring due to the poor baggage make-up area at the facility, which despite several requests, has not been improved.
