Surat: The Union ministry of environment and forest has given its nod for the expansion of the terminal building at Surat airport.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) was awaiting the environment clearance certificate before taking up the Rs 350 crore worth of expansion project of the terminal building.
A senior AAI officer said, “The terminal expansion project work has started with the environment clearance given by the central government. The project is expected to be completed in the next two years.”
On November 1, AAI officials had performed the ground breaking ceremony of the terminal expansion project.
The AAI had issued work order for the construction of the terminal building in May. Prior to awarding the work order, PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the extension of terminal building during his visit to the city in January.
