Tourist taxi operators oppose nominal fee at airport

Vasco: Tourist taxi operators have demanded scrapping of the policy decision of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) of charging nominal fees for the entry of all sorts of commercial vehicles into the Dabolim airport premises.

Deputy collector and sub-divisional magistrate Mormugao Paresh Faldessai had convened an emergency meeting of the tourist taxi operators in his chamber on Friday evening as the tourist taxi operators have opposed the policy decision of the AAI charging fee of Rs 50 for commercial vehicles ferrying passengers from the airport.

The tourist taxi operators have threatened to launch an agitation. They have decided to present a memorandum to the deputy collector and sub-divisional magistrate Mormugao Faldessai at Dabolim airport on Saturday at around 11.30 am. They will also meet the district collector South in Margao on Monday next week. Airport director Malik tried to convince the operators about the policy decision of AAI and the concept of imposing fees on tourist taxis.
