Tyre puncture delays Mumbai-bound flight

Ahmedabad: Getting late to a work meeting due to a flat tyre is perhaps one of the most common excuses one might have heard. But getting delayed due to an aircraft suffering a flat tyre is something rarely heard! But it actually happened on Wednesday! Passengers travelling by Air India flight, AI-030, to Mumbai in the wee hours of Wednesday from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in Ahmedabad, were stranded at the city airport for nearly two hours as the aircraft that was supposed to fly them to Mumbai had a deflated tyre.

The flight got delayed by two hours and 30 minutes for departure. “Inspection before the departure of the aircraft revealed that the aircraft’s tyre was punctured and deflated. After it was repaired, the passengers were boarded and the flight departed,” said a well-placed source. Departure of 15 other flights from SVPI airport were also delayed on Wednesday. These include two SpiceJet flights to Pune and Mumbai which were delayed by at least 2 hours and 35 minutes due to operational reasons caused by bad weather in Hyderabad. Sources confirmed that these flights were delayed due to operational reasons. That apart, other flights to Mumbai, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Kochi, Dehradun and Muscat were delayed by 40-90 minutes.
