5,000 dosas, 10,000 idlis sold at Bengaluru airport daily

Bengaluru: Passengers seem to love tucking into crispy dosas and hot idlis as they fly out of Kempegowda International Airport here.
They also prefer to pick up a box or two of Mysore Pak along as they leave, going by food and beverage trends observed at the departure terminal of Bengaluru airport.
Around 5,000 dosas and 10,000 idlis are sold to departing passengers at KIA daily, while 10,000kg of Mysore Pak is sold on a monthly basis, as per statistics provided at the recently concluded Global Exhibition on Services. The number of outlets selling the two South Indian staples has, in fact, grown at the airport over the past three years.
While in 2016, there were only two outlets selling Mysore Pak and three selling dosas and idlis, the airport now houses five dosa and nine outlets each selling idli and Mysore Pak, according to Bangalore International Airport Ltd, which operates KIA.
While idlis and dosas have emerged as the top choice of food for passengers departing from the airport, they also carry boxes of Mysore Pak as gifts or for consumption later. Other most preferred items by departing passengers include coffee, fast food and liquor.
