Kolhapur: A year after resuming air services to Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Tirupati, and Mumbai, the Kolhapur airport has operated over 2,000 flights and served to over 1 lakh flyers.
“The services at the airport resumed on December 9, 2018, and received an overwhelming response right from the first day,” director of Kolhapur airport Kamal Kataria said on Monday.
According to him, they are working relentlessly on developing the airport which is now an integral part of the city’s transport system.
“The district administration and all political dignitaries came forward to deliver what was the need of the hour for the city,” he said, adding that during the recent floods the airport was the sole land mass that was available for rescue and rehabilitation operations that averted any unwarranted situation in the region.
Kataria said the air services resumed with flights to Bengaluru and Hyderabad by Air Alliance. “The total passenger traffic at Kolhapur airport has touched a new high of 1.06 lakh by Sunday (December 8). Around half of the passengers disembarked at the airport, while the rest boarded from the airport,” he said.
