AAI pitches tent at Patna airport to ease winter congestion

Patna: Bracing for the fog-related flight disruptions during the peak winter season, the Airports Authority of India here has rolled out several measures to minimize inconvenience caused to flyers at the Patna airport.
Among the measures for passenger convenience is a tent with a seating capacity of 400 passengers, which has been erected outside the airport terminal to act as an extended waiting hall.

The tent has been provided with flight information display system as well as a help desk, which will be manned by AAI and airline staffers. Washroom and drinking water facilities have been provided near the tent, according to a statement issued by airport director Bhupesh CH Negi on Tuesday.

“Arrangements have been made to display updated flight information, provision for updated visibility information provided by India Meteorological Department and deployment of adequate security personnel to ensure minimum inconvenience to passengers. Airlines will also make arrangement to timely inform passengers about flight delay via SMS,” the airport director said.

“The tent has been set up keeping in view the space constraints inside the terminal building. Passengers whose flight is delayed or diverted are encouraged to use this facility to avoid unnecessary congestion in front of the terminal building as well as inside the building,” Negi added.

Apart from the tent, a new departure gate has also been opened at the terminal building to avoid congestion or long queues of passengers. The new departure gate has been created after relocating an outlet of a coffee shop.
