Patna: Airports Authority of India (AAI) is hopeful of getting an additional 8-acre land in Bishnupur for extension of auxiliary facilities as part of Bihta airbase development plan. A proposal for more land was submitted to the state government after Patna airport officials conducted a survey at Bihta airbase almost a month back.
A Patna airport official said the state government had provided 108-acre land at Bihta to AAI for development of a civil enclave. The official, however, added that the AAI needed 8-acre additional land to ensure stationing of big aircraft at the apron. “If we get 8-acre land towards the southern side of the proposed terminal building at Bihta airbase, we will be able to develop apron for bigger aircraft,” the official said.
A two-storey building is targeted to be made ready at Bihta airbase by 2022 so that commercial flight operations could be commenced. The drone-shaped terminal building will have the departure lounge on the first floor and arrival area on the ground floor.
Patna DM Kumar Ravi said the district administration recently conducted a survey at Bishnupur to earmark the land. “The AAI had submitted a proposal to chief secretary Dipak Kumar for additional land. The land has been identified and the process of land acquisition will begin soon,” the DM told this newspaper.
He, however, added that the administration was facing difficulties in acquiring land on the two sides of the runway for its extension. “Residents of Sarfuddinpur village are unwilling to give land,” the DM said.
