Ahmedabad: Come Christmas-New Year season, Gujaratis have their party plans in place. Being apprehensive that the ‘dry’ cops in Gujarat will play party spoiler, many have chosen to travel to nearby destinations. As a result, air ares from Ahmedabad to various destinations have sky-rocketed from 30% to 266% for these destinations.
Apart from Goa being the all-time favourite New Year party destination for Gujaratis, this time around, people are also flocking to several destinations in Rajasthan including Jaisalmer, Jaipur, Udaipur and Kumbhalgarh. “With flight connectivity now available for Jaisalmer and Udaipur, these have emerged as popular destinations for tourists. New Year’s Eve is a time when people like to enjoy a drink with friends and family but with prohibition in place in Gujarat, nobody wants to fiddle with the law and invite trouble. Thus, the trend of escaping to short getaways has gone up significantly,” said Anuj Pathak, secretary, Travel Agents’ and Tour Operators’ Association of Gujarat (TAG).
With the dynamic pricing policy adopted by airlines, when the demand goes up, the airfares tend to shoot up significantly. Goa airfares, say tour operators, typically shoot up around this time of the year. That apart, since direct connectivity is available to Udaipur and Jaisalmer, these too are emerging as popular destinations.
