Don’s daughter gets passport with fake papers, arrested

Mumbai: Fugitive gangster Ejaz Lakdawala’s daughter, 22-year-old Sonia, was arrested from the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) on Friday while she trying to leave the country with her daughter, with a passport acquired using forged documents.
Lakdawala is a former henchman of gangster Chhota Rajan. Earlier this year, a developer from the western suburbs had registered a complaint after receiving threats and extortion demands. The case was subsequently transferred to the Anti-Extortion Cell (AEC).
During inquiries, police learnt that Lakdawala and his brother, Aqeel, were involved in the case. After a thorough investigation, Aqeel was tracked down and arrested.
“Aqeel told us that Sonia was living in Mumbai on a passport acquired using forged documents. We then issued a lookout notice for Sonia. On Friday, Sonia and her one-year-old daughter reached CSIA to fly to Nepal. The authorities at the airport held them back and informed us. We took Sonia into custody,” said an AEC officer.
