Kolkata: There was pandemonium at the domestic wing of the integrated terminal at Kolkata airport on Monday morning when irate passengers demonstrated after several flights were delayed and one flight was cancelled without prior intimation. It was GoAir that faced the heat as six of the eight concerned flights belonged to the private carrier.
Anger was brewing ever since an early-morning GoAir flight to Guwahati was cancelled without the airline citing any cause. Things came to a head when GoAir announced that several other flights would be delayed.
Delays of five GoAir flights — to Jaipur, Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati and Bagdogra, scheduled between 5.45am and 12.55pm — were notified on display boards.
The airline ground staff's reluctance to clearly convey the reason for delays worsened the situation. Passengers became agitated when they later learned the cancellation and the delays were owing to non-availability of crew. Many passengers voiced their anger on Twitter and Facebook, tagging the DGCA and civil aviation minister Suresh Prabhu.
