New Delhi: A man who was trying to smuggle in foreign currency worth Rs 30 lakh concealed inside boxes of soya chunks was caught at IGI airport on Wednesday.
CISF personnel grew suspicious seeing the number of boxes and on physical check found Rs 30 lakh-worth currency concealed in them.
A senior CISF official said around 9.30pm, on a profiling basis, CISF surveillance and intelligence staff zeroed in on the passenger, Rohit Aggarwal, in the check-in area of terminal 3. Aggarwal was scheduled to board an Air India flight to Bangkok at 11pm.
During the pre-embarkation security check, CISF personnel noticed a suspicious image from inside his hand baggage and on physical check, found 22,600 USD and 17,200 Euros concealed inside the packets. On inquiry, Aggarwal failed to produce valid documents, following which the matter was referred to Customs.
