SC reserves verdict in Mopa airport case

Panaji: The Supreme Court has reserved its judgment in the Mopa airport case after hearing final arguments over Wednesday and Thursday, director of civil aviation Suresh Shanbhogue told TOI.
In March, the apex court had suspended the environmental clearance (EC) granted to the Mopa airport by the Union ministry of environment, forests and climate change for “hiding significant components” of the environmental aspects from scrutiny in order to secure approval for the project.
It had also directed the Union government to revisit the EC.
The delay in constructing the greenfield airport has been amounting to a daily loss of Rs 50 lakh, sources said. While GMR Goa International Airport Ltd (GGIAL) has already spent Rs 230 crore on construction of airport, the state government has parted with Rs 240 crore for land acquisition, rehabilitation, road-widening, consultancy and other related aspects.
