Spl chartered plane brings kids & teachers back home

Kolkata: Students and teachers from Patha Bhavan School, who were stranded in Siliguri after the cancellation of trains to north Bengal, returned to the city on Tuesday evening after Air India organised a chartered flight following appeals by distressed parents and concerned school authorities.
There were emotional scenes at the airport when the 128 students stepped out of the terminal around 8.30pm. Parents who were waiting anxiously since 6pm rushed forward and hugged their children. The students, along with 12 teachers had paid around Rs 10,000 each to return home. A dozen others who had organised the tour and were accompanying the students are expected to return in a bus sometime Wednesday.
The students of classes V to IX were among thousands who were held up in Siliguri after all major trains between Kolkata and New Jalpaiguri were cancelled in the wake of protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register of Citizens since late Friday.
The contingent from Patha Bhavan had left Kolkata on December 12 to participate in a nature camp at Vattitar village near Kalimpong. After the event, they headed for NJP to board the Kanchan Kanya Express on which they had reserved seats. It was on the way to Siliguri that teachers learned that the train had been cancelled.
