AAI signs pact for new airport near Mandi in Himachal

New Delhi: Himachal Pradesh will soon have another airport, improving the aerial connectivity of this hill state. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) on Wednesday signed an MoU for constructing a greenfield airport at Nagchala near Mandi. The airport’s runway will initially be suitable for operating aircraft up to ATR 72. Himachal has functional airports at Dharamshala, Kullu and Shimla.
The government of Himachal Pradesh had expressed interest to ministry of civil aviation for construction of a greenfield airport at Nagchala near Mandi.
“The development of the greenfield airport with unidirectional runway will be implemented through a JV company wherein AAI will hold 51% equity and the remaining 49% equity will be held by the government of HP or its designated agency. The JV will design, develop, construct and complete the airport including finance, for commercial civil aviation operation as well as undertake operation, maintenance, management of the airport in accordance with the terms and conditions of the MoU,” AAI said in a statement.
