Pune: An Ahmedabad-Pune SpiceJet flight was diverted to Mumbai on Thursday evening following “temporary closure of the runway” at the city airport, resulting in three-hour delay.

“SpiceJet Flight SG 523 operating from Ahmedabad to Pune on January 9 was diverted to Mumbai due to temporary runway closure at the Pune airport. The flight reached the destination after the runway was available for normal operations,” a SpiceJet spokesperson told TOI.
The runway of the Pune airport is managed by the Indian Air Force (IAF), authorities of which could not be reached for their comments on the issue till going to the press.

The flight took off from Ahmedabad at 7.28pm, eight-minute after its scheduled departure.

It was supposed to land at the Pune airport by 8.20pm, following which it was to fly back to Ahmedabad as SG-524 at 8.50pm.

A passenger travelling by the return Pune-Ahmedabad flight said, “The flight (SG-524) was supposed to take off from the Pune airport at 8.50pm. However, it was delayed by three hours and eventually took off at 11.50pm.”

“The airline staffers kept giving us all kinds of excuses for the delay. They also behaved rudely with many passengers,” the passenger said.
