Chennai: Smog caused mainly by Bhogi bonfires affected three flights at Chennai airport on Tuesday morning. Two flights were diverted to Bengaluru while another could not take off due to poor visibility.
Residents burnt waste as part of Bhogi celebrations, causing the smog.
Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials said a Mysuru-bound Air India flight went to the runway around 7.15am but could not take off. The plane returned to the terminal. After an hour, it took off.
Two Air India flights from Mumbai and Thiruvananthapuram were diverted to Bengaluru around 8am.
