Man, 92, arrested at Birmingham Airport and charged with sexually assaulting teenage girl on bus

A 92-year-old man who was arrested at Birmingham Airport has appeared in court in connection with an allegation he sexually assaulted a teenage girl on a bus.

With the help of a Punjabi interpreter, Sarwan Singh spoke only to confirm his name and that he was struggling to see or hear the proceedings when he appeared in court.

The 92-year-old pensioner, from Derby, appeared at Derby Crown Court, in the East Midlands, according to our sister title DerbyshireLive.

The court was told Singh, of Crewe Street, Normanton, was arrested when he arrived back in the UK on a flight from India at Birmingham Airport on December 23 and was brought to court by family members on Christmas Eve.
It is alleged the pensioner carried out the sexual assault on a 16-year-old girl on a Trent Barton Harlequin bus in Babington Lane, Derby, on February 22, 2018.

He is yet to enter a plea and his case was adjourned until February 7 so he can speak to his solicitors and so reports can be obtained about his fitness to plead to the charge, the hearing was told.
