Nine flights delayed due to poor visibility

Patna: Flight operations at Jayaprakash Narayan International (JPNI) Airport here were partially affected due to poor visibility on Thursday. Altogether nine flights were delayed due to the inclement weather.
Three flights of IndiGo (two Kolkata-bound and one Delhi-bound), four of SpiceJet (one each to Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Ahmedabad) and one each of Air India (Delhi) and GoAir (Bengaluru) were delayed.

Santosh Kumar, assistant general manager (air traffic management) at Patna airport, however, said the flights suffered minor delays.

He added, “The minimum visibility of 1,000m for landing of flights was reached before 9am. The first flight of SpiceJet arrived at Patna airport on its scheduled time at 9am and departed without any delay.”
According to weather scientist at Patna Meteorological Office, the device that measures the runway visual range (RVR) broke down in the morning. “The visibility was measured in the morning through conventional method. The weathermen used eye estimates for assessment of visibility condition at the airport, which does not give accurate information,” he added.
