Passengers fume as ‘parked’ cars block airport driveway

Coimbatore: With the city airport doing away the time limit for cars which come to drop or pick up passengers on the main road in front of the airport entrance, several drivers are seen parking their cars on the road and wait for customers. Some parked cars hinder vehicular movements as they wait upto 10min blocking the entry and exit gates completely. Passengers, who are in a hurry, lose valuable time because of this.
Several cars lined up close to the kerb to pick up passengers on Monday at 10am when a Spicejet flight from Chennai and an Indigo flight from another destination landed. The cars which came later started occupying next two lanes to wait for passengers, leaving several cars that came to drop off and pick up passengers stranded away from the airport.

“I took the 10am flight as I could reach my office by 10.15am. But I am stuck in my car and it is already 10.15am,” said Kumar K, a businessman, who had to sit inside his car and wait for two cars in front of him to clear the path.
Earlier, cars could pick up and drop off passengers at the airport without paying any charge as long as they exited within five minutes. Cars that take more than five minutes had to pay Rs 50.
