Rajasthan set for swanky jet for VVIPs

JAIPUR: The state is all set to get a new aircraft for ferrying VVIPs Sources said acquisition of the jet was in the final stages.
A high-power committee meeting is scheduled to takes place in the first week of January. Once the committee clears it, the state will buy the jet for the travel of governor, CM and other VVIPs.
Sources said all the leading manufacturers had responded to an expression of interest invited by the state aviation department.
The Rajasthan government owns two aircraft and an Augusta helicopter.
One aircraft is 28 years old while the other is around 17 years old. The Augusta helicopter was grounded after it suffered a technical glitch in November 2011. The government has been hiring jet planes for VVIP movement ever since the Augusta helicopter was grounded, which according to officials cost around Rs 4 lakh per hour. The acquisition of another state pane is a long overdue. The previous Raje government had also planned to buy a plane, but it did not take off. It was during Raje's tenure that the controversial Augusta helicopter was acquired.
