Singapore Airlines to boost Kolkata services

Starting March 29 this year, Singapore Airlines (SIA) will add a fifth weekly flight to Kolkata, India, while its regional wing Silk Air will cease services to the city on the same day.

Currently, Singapore Airlines flies four times a week to Kolkata, and Silk Air operates three weekly flights to the Indian city.

Singapore Airlines will continue to use its Airbus A350-900 medium-haul aircraft on the route. The aircraft has 40 seats in business class and 263 in economy class.

“SIA’s A350-900 medium haul aircraft has been warmly received by customers since its introduction on the Singapore-Kolkata route in June 2019. We are pleased to increase our services to Kolkata with this new generation aircraft by adding a weekly frequency from March 2020,” said Tan Kai Ping, senior vice president marketing planning.

Sales for Singapore Airlines’ additional Kolkata flight will start from today. The airline said customers with existing bookings on Silk Air’s Kolkata flights on and after March 29 this year will be re-accommodated on SIA’s flights.
