Aerobridges to be used at seven airports to screen passengers

After testing 534 suspected cases until Tuesday, the Union health ministry said that only three cases of novel coronavirus had been confirmed till date. Of the 534 samples that have been tested, 160 are from the quarantine centres set up for the individuals evacuated from Wuhan, China.

Health secretary Preeti Sudan also held a video conference with health secretaries from states/UTs along with senior officials from Ministry of Shipping, Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Home Affairs to review their preparedness for prevention and management of novel coronavirus. Among the measures that are being taken to screen, Sudan said, earmarked aerobridges will be used at seven international airports (Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Cochin, Bengaluru, Hyderabad & Chennai) at the dedicated gates to screen passengers from China, Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong for novel coronavirus to ensure effective prevention.

Representatives of Union ministry of tourism said that they were coordinating with hotel associations for wider self-reporting by travellers visiting religious and tourist places. Screening of passengers is now on at 21 airports, international seaports and border crossings. Sudan also said that 777 flights and 89,500 passengers had been screened at these airports. As many as 454 samples were tested, out of which 451 found negative and three found positive. A total of 3,935 passengers are presently under community surveillance in 29 states/UTs.
