Five couples serve legal notice to GoAir seeking compensation for their monetary losses, 'harassment' after flight delay

Five couples, including a lawyer couple from Mumbai, who were on board the January 24 GoAir flight from Bengaluru-Phuket, which was delayed by eight hours after a mid-air turn back, on Wednesday sent a legal notice to the airline seeking compensation for their monetary losses, service deficiencies, and harassment.
The notice, sent by Mumbai-based law firm Solicis Lex, on behalf of 13 passengers who travelled on that flight to Phuket, threatened to file civil and criminal proceedings against GoAir unless the airline gave them a refund and compensated them for inordinate delays and ruining their vacation.
Among the 13 passengers were Hemal Kanani and Priyanka Rathi, who work with Solicis Lex. There were four other couples from Gujarat and three people from Bengaluru. GoAir flight G8 841 to Phuket had taken off in the early hours of January 24 from Kempegowda international airport in Bengaluru but had to return to Bengaluru due to a technical snag.
“Around 5.15 am, we were given biscuits and flavoured milk as refreshments. Around 7 am, people started getting uneasy and shouted at the crew,” said Hemant Kanani.
Around 8 am, the passengers were told that the duty hours of the pilots were over, and new crew would soon arrive to fly them.
“Our flight was supposed to reach Phuket at 7.45 am, but we were still stuck at Bengaluru airport tarmac. The flight finally took off at 10.44 am Ahmedabad-based banker Bhavi Patel and his wife Gayatri were travelling with two other couples – Arjun and Chandni Patel and Niyati and Siddarth Patel.
“Arjun and Chandni were married just two days ago, and Gayatri and I were celebrating our first wedding anniversary. So, we had planned to give the newly married couple a party on landing in Phuket. But, due to mismanagement, we reached the hotel only in late evening of January 25,” said Patel from Ahmedabad.
